A1 Beginners

By the end of the A1 level, students can introduce themselves, ask and answer basic questions, describe people and places, talk about daily routines, shopping, food, and past experiences in a simple way.

Those with no prior learning should try/enrol in an A1.0 level class.  If you have taken GCSE or other beginner courses in the past or have been using Apps like Duo Lingo or podcasts for self study you may like to try A1.1 or A1.2.   You can also take a level test prior to enrolling, or contact us for a consultation otherwise the teacher will be able to assess your level at your trial class.

We break our A1 course down into three parts, our groups progress at their own pace and can take 2-3 terms to complete each part.   Use the tabs above to view summaries of what is covered in each part of the course and guidance on which level group to try.

A2 Lower intermediate

Students at A2 lower intermediate level can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment).  Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.

We welcome new joiners with an appropriate level of Spanish at any time during the course.  We offer trial classes to new students, at which the teacher will be able to assess your level.   You can also take a level test prior to enrolling, or contact us for a consultation.

Our A2 lower intermediate level is ideal if you have completed an A1 course or GCSE Spanish.   While our groups do not work towards official certification, our team can support students to sit the Cervantes DELE exams upon completion of each level.

We break our A2 lower intermediate level down into three parts, our groups can take around 2-4 terms to complete each part.

Use the tabs above to view summaries of what is covered in each part of the course and guidance on which level group to try.  For full contents including grammar and vocabulary see the full course contents linked below.

B1 Intermediate

At B1 intermediate level classes are conversation based with listening comprehension from our course materials exposing the student to a variety of accents and themes.   Grammar is introduced through reading, writing and listening activities with homework set from the course book to expand on learning done in class.

By the end of the B1 level, students can confidently express opinions, narrate experiences, and handle most everyday situations while travelling or interacting in Spanish-speaking environments. They use a range of tenses, including past, future, conditional, and the subjunctive, in familiar contexts.

Our B1 course is very comprehensive and we break it down into 4 parts with groups progressing at their own pace and taking anywhere from 2-4 terms to complete each phase.  Listed below are the areas of communication an themes covered in each part of the course, for grammar and vocabulary see the full course contents linked below.

Ideally, students will have completed the A2 level, have an A-level in Spanish, recent immersion in a Spanish-speaking country, or been raised in a Spanish speaking home. You can also take a level test prior to enrolling, or contact us for a consultation.

For B1.0-B1.2 you will be able to understand Spanish when spoken at a slow-moderate pace, have a sound understanding of basic grammar and be able to independently respond to questions in short phrases.  For B1.3 (upper intermediate) you will be able to understand Spanish when spoken at a moderate pace, be able to independently respond and debate in moderate length sentences and have encountered the subjunctive.

B1.0 - The first part of the course helps students consolidate use of the past tenses (pretérito perfecto, indefinido, and imperfecto) while expanding vocabulary related to personal experiences, emotions, and habits. It includes expressing opinions, narrating past events, and describing people, routines, and places more fluidly.

B1.1- Focuses on developing communication in everyday social situations like making suggestions, expressing doubt, talking about feelings, and discussing cultural activities. Students refine their use of the subjunctive in specific contexts and enhance fluency through opinion-based discussions.

B1.2 - This level deepens students’ ability to express intentions, emotions, and future plans with more nuance. Topics include work, leisure, and lifestyle. Grammar includes future tenses and more complex use of subjunctive and conditional structures.

B1.3  - The final B1 course reinforces everything learned so far and prepares students for more independent use of Spanish. It emphasises functional communication for travel, problem-solving, and debating opinions, with continued integration of past, present, future, and conditional structures.

B2 Advanced

During the B2 level students transition to more advanced level learning materials with diverse and challenging conversations and debates in class.   To join a B2 group you will need to have solid foundation having covered the majority of learning and gramatical concepts that have been taught in previous levels.

Our B2 advanced level classes include stimulating conversation and debates,  listening comprehension from our course materials exposing the student to a variety of accents and themes from the Spanish speaking world.   Grammar is introduced through reading, writing and listening activities with homework set from the course book to expand on learning done in class.

Potential new students should understand Spanish when spoken at a moderate pace, understand the majority of long factual and literary texts, be able to express yourself fairly fluently and relatively spontaneously (verbally and in writing).   Grupo Venezuela are one of our longest established groups with a great social atmosphere.   You can also take a level test prior to enrolling, or contact us for a consultation.

Please click the 'read more' button in the trial class bookings to find out what Grupo Venezuela are working from this term in our B2 course.  You can view the full course contents and a sample unit from our course book below.
