Beginner 1a foundation

Start Speaking Spanish.  First words, pronunciation, introductions and simple conversations.

Start Speaking Spanish

This module is for complete beginners and adults who want to start again from the very beginning. You’ll learn how to greet people, introduce yourself, ask simple questions and understand the sounds of Spanish. We also cover essential first grammar such as gender, nationalities and simple personal information. By the end of the module, you should feel more confident reading Spanish aloud, joining in with simple classroom activities and taking part in your first short Spanish conversations.

Who is it for?

This level is ideal if you are completely new to Spanish, only know a few words or phrases, or studied Spanish a long time ago and would like a fresh start. It is also a good choice if you feel nervous about speaking and want a supportive class where everything is introduced step by step.

What you’ll learn

First conversations: Greetings & farewells, introduce yourself and ask simple questions. Spanish pronunciation: Learn how Spanish sounds work so you can read words aloud with more confidence. Useful first vocabulary: Start using numbers, nationalities, professions and classroom phrases. Simple sentence building: Understand use of gender and the first grammar patterns that help you create short Spanish sentences.

What comes next in Beginner 1?

After the foundation module, Beginner 1 continues with two further modules that help you build vocabulary, confidence and independence in everyday Spanish.

Beginner 1b

Explore the Spanish-Speaking World. In this module, students learn to talk about countries, places, weather and the Hispanic world. You’ll build on your first Spanish conversations by describing places, saying where things are and understanding simple information about Spanish-speaking countries. This is where beginners start to use Spanish to talk about the wider world, not just themselves.

Beginner 1c

Out and About: Shopping, Colours & Everyday Essentials This module introduces useful Spanish for shopping, clothes, colours, everyday objects and simple preferences. You’ll learn how to identify things, say what you need and manage short practical exchanges in shops and everyday situations. It is a useful step towards feeling more independent with Spanish outside the classroom.

Who are these classes for?

If you already know some basic Spanish but need more confidence with speaking, listening and grammar. Unsure of your level? Take our test or get in touch.
