Service Description

Who was Federico García Lorca, and why does his life and legacy continue to resonate today? Join Elena for a fascinating two-hour online journey into the Spain of the 1920s and 1930s, exploring the life, loves and enduring memory of one of Spain's most celebrated poets and playwrights. With the award-winning film La bola negra bringing renewed attention to Lorca's legacy, this is the perfect opportunity to discover the historical and cultural background to his story. Rather than studying his entire biography or literary works, we'll explore the world in which Lorca lived: Spain in the 1920s and 1930s: The social, political and cultural landscape of a country undergoing extraordinary change. Love, identity and sexuality: What did it mean to be gay in Spain during this period? The Spanish Civil War: The conflict that changed Spain forever and brought Lorca's life to a tragic end. Memory and legacy: Why does Lorca's story still matter, and how does it continue to inspire artists and filmmakers today? Learn about Spain, through Spanish! This interactive workshop will be delivered in Spanish by our experienced native-speaking tutor, Elena, who has previously led some of our most popular workshops on Spanish history and culture. Designed for learners at Intermediate level (A2) and above, it offers an engaging opportunity to develop your listening comprehension, expand your cultural knowledge and share ideas in Spanish. You don't need to have read Lorca's works or seen La bola negra to take part. Curiosity about Spanish history, language and culture is all you need! Workshop details 📅 Thursday 29 October 2026 🕙 10am–12.15pm (UK time) to include a short comfort break 💻 Live online via Zoom 🇪🇸 Delivered predominantly in Spanish with support in English 📚 Level: A1 (Beginner 2 upwards), A2, B1, B2 Open to everyone, wherever you are!
