Learn Spanish Through Film: Iberoamerican Highlights at Bath Film Festival

Bath Film Festival 2025 is bringing the magic of Spanish and Latin American cinema to the big screen! From 17–26 October, audiences can enjoy six Iberoamerican films — from Spain, Portugal, and across Latin America — showcasing powerful stories, rich cultures, and stunning language.
At Todo el Mundo, we love learning Spanish through film, and each year our students and teachers come together to watch, discuss, and celebrate these incredible productions. Whether you’re learning Spanish or simply love world cinema, this is a wonderful way to experience authentic language in context and connect with the vibrant cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.
These are the Iberoamerican films in the 2025 programme:
🎬 Cielo (Alberto Sciamma, 2025, UK, Bolivia)

A young indigenous Bolivian girl embarks on a beautiful, surreal journey to take her mother to eternal paradise.
Followed by a Q&A in person with Spanish director Alberto Sciamma, hosted by Lorena Pino.

🎬 Romería (Carla Simón, 2025, Spain)

Written and directed by Catalan director, Carla Simón, known by her films Summer 1993 and Alcarrás. Romería tells the story of Marina, an orphaned young woman who wants to find out her father but meets a wall of shame and denial.

🎬 Cuerpo Celeste (Nayra Ilic, 2025, Chile, Italy)

In a world of adults, 15 years old Celeste, works through her changes while the country rocks between the dictatorship and the return to democracy. A beautiful coming of age film, where the personal grown comes close to the discovery of a country.

🎬 Comparsa (Doug Anderson, Vickie Curtis, Guatemala, USA, 2025, Documentary)

Fighting back against misogyny and femicide in Guatemala, two sisters create a joyous, radical festival to support young women victims of violence.
There are also two USA productions but by Latin American directors: Ponyboy (Esteban Arango, Colombia), and The Shape of Water (Guillermo del Toro, Mexico) special event behind The Colonnades.

¡El Festival de Cine de Bath 2025 llega con lo mejor del cine español y latinoamericano en la gran pantalla! Del 17 al 26 de octubre, el público podrá disfrutar de seis películas iberoamericanas — procedentes de España, Portugal y América Latina — que ofrecen historias poderosas, culturas vibrantes y un idioma lleno de vida.
En Todo el Mundo nos encanta aprender español a través del cine, y cada año nuestros estudiantes y profesores se reúnen para ver, comentar y celebrar estas magníficas producciones. Tanto si estás aprendiendo español como si eres amante del cine internacional, esta es una oportunidad fantástica para disfrutar del idioma en su contexto real y descubrir nuevas perspectivas del mundo hispanohablante.

Una niña indigena boliviana se embarca en un hermoso y surreal viaje para llevar a su madre al paraíso eterno.
El director español Alberto Sciamma estará en persona en una sesión de preguntas y respuestas tras la película, con moderación de Lorena Pino.

La monja mexicana Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz desafía las expectativas al convertirse en una reconocida intelectual durante la Inquisición Española.

Escrita y dirigida por la directora catalana Carla Simón, conocida por sus películas Verano 1993 y Alcarrás, Romería narra la historia de Marina, una joven huérfana que desea encontrar a su padre, pero se encuentra con un muro de vergüenza y negación.

En un mundo de adultos, Celeste, de 15 años, lidia con sus cambios mientras el país se debate entre la dictadura y el regreso a la democracia. Una hermosa película sobre la transición a la madurez, donde la madurez personal se acerca al descubrimiento de un país.

En su lucha contra la misoginia y el feminicidio en Guatemala, dos hermanas crean un festival alegre y radical para apoyar a jóvenes víctimas de violencia.
También hay dos producciones estadounidenses, pero de directores latinoamericanos: Ponyboy, dirigida por el colombiano Esteban Arango) y La Forma del agua, dirigida por el Mexicano Guillermo del Toro, la cual se presentará en un evento especial en The Colonnades, Bath.
