El Sistema y Los Niños de las Brisas

This November mi paisana Lorena Pino is running a series of films at Watershed Bristol that were directed by women from Latin America. There is one from Venezuela this Sunday and I thought I would share some background info about the context for this documentary, which we are so fortunate to have come to Bristol.

This film is about poor children in the El Sistema music programme created by Abraham Abreu which gives hope for them to become someone. It took place in a critical time in the country under the 'Chavismo' regime. One example is Gustavo Dudamel who is now the director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra.
